Why does the app say Charging paused?

If the MyPlugStream app says Charging paused, it usually means the charger is holding charging for a site power reason rather than starting immediately.

This is often connected to load balancing, site limit rules, or missing live site readings.

What Charging paused means

Charging paused does not always mean the charger is faulty.

It often means the charger is waiting for the information or conditions it needs before it can safely start or continue charging.

The exact message shown in Charger readiness is important. It tells you whether the pause is related to site load control, missing telemetry, a sensor issue, a site limit, or the vehicle not requesting energy.

Common reasons for Charging paused

Site load control needs attention

The charger is part of a setup that manages available power across the site, and something in that setup needs checking.

This can happen after installation changes, site configuration changes, or when a shared power setup is not behaving as expected.

What to do: Leave the vehicle plugged in for a minute and refresh the app. If the charger stays paused, contact PlugStream support or your installer.

The charger is not receiving live site power readings

The charger may need live site readings before it can decide how much power is safe to use.

If those readings do not arrive, charging can pause while the charger waits.

What to do: Wait briefly and check the app again. If it keeps happening, contact support.

The site power sensor is reporting a problem

Some installations use a site power sensor so the charger can measure overall electrical demand.

If that sensor is reporting a problem, charging may pause to protect the site supply.

What to do: This usually needs support or installer attention.

The site supply limit is not configured

The charger may need a site limit before it can safely manage charging.

If that limit is missing, the app may show Charging paused until the setup is corrected.

What to do: Contact support or your installer, especially if this happens soon after installation or configuration changes.

The app says Waiting for site telemetry instead

You may sometimes see Waiting for site telemetry rather than Charging paused.

This is a more specific message that means the charger is waiting for live site power data before it can start.

What to do: Wait a short time first. If it does not clear, contact support.

What to do now

  1. Keep the vehicle plugged in for 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. Refresh the charger page in the app.
  3. Check the exact title and message shown in Charger readiness.
  4. Check whether the app also says Charger offline or Fault detected.
  5. If the problem continues, contact PlugStream support or your installer.

When to contact support

Contact PlugStream support if:

  • Charging paused does not clear after waiting
  • the same message appears regularly
  • the app also shows Charger offline or Fault detected
  • charging used to work normally and stopped after recent electrical or site changes
