What does a red fault LED mean?
A red LED means the charger safety system has activated and charging has stopped.
What to do first
- Stop the charging session if it has not already stopped.
- Unplug the vehicle if it is safe to do so.
- Check the MyPlugStream app for Charger readiness or fault details.
- Do not open the charger enclosure.
- Contact your installer or PlugStream Support if the fault does not clear.
If the charger smells unusual, looks damaged, has signs of water ingress, or the cable or connector is damaged, stop using it until it has been checked.
Possible causes
A red fault state can be caused by several things, including:
- a charger safety protection event
- vehicle-side charging fault
- supply or voltage issue
- installation or circuit issue
- damaged cable or connector
- repeated breaker or RCD trip
The app, installer checks, and support diagnostics help identify the exact cause.
Information to collect
Before contacting support, note:
- charger serial number
- LED colour and whether it is solid or pulsing
- what the app says
- when the fault started
- whether the vehicle charges normally elsewhere
- whether any electrical work, router change, or power cut happened recently
