Tools Required

This article covers the practical tools, test equipment, and commissioning information to have ready before installing a PlugStream charge point.

Read this after preparing the site and before mounting the device.

Installation tools

Bring suitable tools for the mounting surface and cable route, including:

  • drill and 8mm drill bits
  • 3mm Allen key
  • spirit level
  • fixings suitable for the wall or mounting structure if not using included fixings
  • insulated hand tools
  • torque screwdriver or torque driver suitable for the terminal requirements
  • cable preparation tools
  • approved test equipment for the installation checks you are responsible for

Always follow the charger label, PCB markings, installation design, and current local electrical regulations.

Commissioning equipment

For commissioning through the PlugStream Installer app, have:

  • iPhone or Android phone with the PlugStream Installer app installed
  • Bluetooth enabled
  • mobile data or site Wi-Fi access for the phone
  • charger serial number and activation details
  • customer email address
  • Wi-Fi SSID and password, if Wi-Fi will be used
  • customer name, site address, and location name

Charge-test equipment

The installer app supports different charge-test methods.

Real vehicle

Use a real EV where possible. The vehicle test is designed to run long enough for the charger to confirm State C, output live, current flow, and a clean stop.

Tester or emulator

Use a suitable EVSE tester or emulator when a vehicle is not available. For this method, the charger can pass the installer test when State C and output live are confirmed, even if there is no meaningful load.

Manual override

Manual override should only be used where neither a vehicle nor tester/emulator test can be completed. The installer app requires notes explaining why the live charge test was not possible.

Optional items

Depending on the site, you may also need:

  • Ethernet patch lead
  • mobile signal test method for optional mobile connectivity
  • CT clamp documentation or site load-management design notes
  • customer router or network contact details
  • photo evidence checklist, including the PCB wiring photo before the cover is closed

Next step

Confirm the installation height, mount the charger using Mounting the device, then power on and commission through How to use the PlugStream Installer app.
