Installation Height

Choose an installation height that is safe, usable, and suitable for the mounting surface and cable route.

The PlugStream installation guide refers to a minimum mounting height of 0.9 m from ground level. The final height should also reflect the site design, customer access needs, and any local requirements that apply to the installation.

Use this with Preparing the site before you follow the QR code guide: How to Install a PlugStream Charge Point.

Positioning checks

Before drilling, confirm:

  • the customer can comfortably reach the connector and cable
  • the charging cable can reach the normal vehicle parking position
  • the cable will not normally rest across sharp edges, standing water, or vehicle movement paths
  • the charger is clear of doors, gates, and areas likely to be struck
  • there is enough space to remove the front cover for installation and future service
  • the LED/status area remains visible for customer support

Accessibility

The product can be positioned as part of a site design that follows BS 8300-1:2018. The installer and site designer remain responsible for the final location, approach route, clear space, mounting height, protection from impact, and cable management for the specific site.

Where accessibility requirements apply, agree the final position with the customer or site operator before mounting. Consider drivers who use wheelchairs or mobility aids and people with limited reach, grip, strength, or vision.

Confirm that:

  • the socket, tethered connector, and cable storage position are within comfortable reach from the intended approach
  • the user does not need to stretch, bend excessively, or reach across a vehicle or obstruction
  • there is clear manoeuvring space and a firm, level approach where required by the site design
  • the charging cable does not obstruct a pedestrian route or accessible bay access zone
  • the status indicator and permanent safety information are visible from the normal operating position
  • any bollard or impact protection does not obstruct controls, connector handling, or wheelchair access

Record the agreed mounting height and accessibility decisions in the installation evidence.

Environmental considerations

Do not select a position where:

  • water can pool around the cable or connector
  • the cable is likely to become a trip hazard
  • the charger is exposed to avoidable impact risk
  • the mounting surface cannot securely hold the charger and cable forces

After mounting, confirm the charger is level, secure, and suitable for the cable route before connecting power.

After the height is agreed, continue with Mounting the device.
