Can I use an adapter with PlugStream

PlugStream chargers are supplied as Type 2 tethered units by default.
If your vehicle uses a Type 1 (SAE J1772) connector, we do not recommend purchasing a tethered PlugStream unit.

We also cannot endorse the use of Type 2 → Type 1 adapters, as their quality can vary significantly and may pose safety risks.

Important warnings

  • Using any adapter between Type 1 and Type 2 will void the PlugStream warranty.
  • The tethered cable on PlugStream units cannot be swapped for a Type 1 lead.
  • For Type 1 vehicles, the safest option is to install a Universal Socket variant and use the charging cable supplied with your vehicle.

For Type 1 cars, you should use a Type 1 (vehicle end) → Type 2 (charge point end) cable, like this:

This ensures safe and reliable charging without the risks associated with adapters.
